Tokyo’s Latest Launch Brings AI Dating for the Seriously Committed

Tokyo Enmusubi AI Matches Tokyo Singles Using Tests, Verification, And Staff Support For Serious Marriage Seekers Only.

The Tokyo Enmusubi AI matching system, part of the Tokyo Futari Story initiative, is the latest effort by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to help residents find lasting love. To gain access to this unique matchmaking service, users must pay a registration fee, provide verification documents, and even pass a virtual interview, underscoring the app's commitment to matching serious individuals.

This initiative comes on the heels of a 2021 survey, which found that while 67 percent of Tokyo residents expressed a desire to get married, 69.3 percent hadn’t taken the first step toward finding a partner. The government’s new system aims to provide the necessary nudge for these individuals to start their journey toward marriage.

Unlike traditional dating apps, which often evoke concerns about privacy and dating scams, the Tokyo Enmusubi system, backed by the government, seeks to alleviate these fears by promoting a secure and reliable platform. As an added touch, its name, "Enmusubi," a term that signifies the "tying of fates" in the romantic sense, connects the app to Japan’s cultural tradition of matchmaking, lending a sense of security and authenticity.

To ensure the seriousness of its users, the app requires a one-time registration fee of 11,000 yen (about $76.42), granting access for two years. This fee is designed to weed out those seeking casual encounters, focusing instead on those committed to building a lasting relationship.

The app's distinguishing features include an AI-driven compatibility system that matches users based on tests measuring personal values. Furthermore, identity verification is required, including proof of being legally single and financial disclosures. Before gaining full access, users must also participate in a virtual interview to ensure their intent aligns with the app’s goals.

For those needing guidance, the system offers consultations with experienced staff to assist users through various stages of the relationship process, from first dates to marriage. These personalized consultations set the Tokyo Enmusubi AI matching system apart from other dating services by providing real-time support.

Tokyo Enmusubi doesn’t stop at digital matchmaking. It also offers access to a variety of offline events, including sports and cultural meet-ups. Additionally, users can explore the Tokyo Futari Story website, which features relevant marriage resources, such as meet-up events, recommended date spots, and the Tokyo Life Design Simulator, a tool that allows young people to simulate a life plan involving marriage and family life.

For those meeting the eligibility criteria—being 18 or older, legally single, and living, working, or studying in Tokyo—the app provides an organized and culturally rich pathway to finding love. With the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s goal of turning matches into happily married couples, this initiative marks a bold step toward modernizing the dating landscape while staying true to tradition.
